Powering the glasses on
This is what I do first, so that the signal can start broadcasting.
- Insert a battery into the recording unit.
- Hold a finger over the power button until it lights up green.
- Plug in glasses
Get the tablet
- Log into tablet.
- Launch Glasses 3 Controller app.
- It should auto connect to the glasses name (RU_#). If it doesn’t, you can find the signal from the glasses in the same menu as Wi-Fi connections. It could also broadcast the ID # of the recording unit.
Begin recording
- Enter participant name.
- Calibrate glasses with the target card.
- Begin recording.
Import / Export video
- Take the SD card out of the recording unit and insert it into a computer.
- For just the raw footage without gaze overlay, navigate into the SD card and copy / paste the videos needed.
- For gaze analysis and overlay, open the Tobii Pro Labs desktop app. Begin a new project, and select the SD card itself to import your videos.
Tobii Pro Labs
There is a lot to unpack here. The best way to understand this app is through Tobii’s academy. Run through some of the training available and mess around with a few fun projects to see what is available.
For the most basic use, all of the data you would be interested in exporting can be found in the “Metrics” tab, as well as the “Data Export” tab. Here, you can scroll through what data is available, select the information you would like, and export it as an excel file.
For example, in the cognitive load pilot study, each participant recording was time stamped at various stages in the pilot. These markers are available to be exported and analyzed.
